Job Overview
Location: Oshawa, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-storey home with attached garage
Problem: Mouse activity inside the home, with long-standing interior concerns and signs noted in the attic
Service: Mice treatment
Visits: 2
Summary
We were contacted to address an ongoing mouse issue affecting interior areas of a detached home in Oshawa. Our team completed a full exterior inspection, identified likely entry points, and implemented a professional baiting program. Follow-up confirmed that interior activity had stopped and no further issues were reported.
Background / Property Context
The property is a two-storey residential home with brick exterior finishes, soffit transitions, and multiple utility and foundation interfaces. These construction features can create small gaps over time that are suitable for rodent entry if not sealed.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported persistent mouse activity inside the house. The issue had been ongoing for an extended period, and activity was also suspected in the attic space.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial visit, our technician completed a detailed exterior inspection of the structure. Areas of focus included the foundation line, siding and soffit transitions, and window and utility penetrations.
Inside the attic, disturbed insulation was observed, consistent with rodent movement. Exterior inspection identified small gaps along the foundation and at siding and soffit junctions that could allow mice to enter the structure.
Cause Analysis
Mice commonly enter homes through gaps as small as a few centimetres, particularly along foundation seams and exterior transitions. In this case, age-related openings and building interfaces provided potential access points. Once inside, attic insulation offers warmth and concealment, allowing activity to persist undetected.
Treatment / Removal
Treatment was carried out by a licensed exterminator in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Tamper-resistant exterior bait stations were installed in areas of elevated rodent activity around the home. The baiting program was designed to reduce the exterior population and interrupt ongoing entry into the structure.
Exclusion options were reviewed with the homeowner during the visit; however, no exterior sealing work was authorized at that time.
Exclusion & Repairs
No exclusion or repair work was completed as part of this service, as the homeowner elected not to proceed with sealing identified entry points during the initial visit.
Outcome & Confirmation
At the follow-up visit, the homeowner reported that mouse activity inside the home had ceased. No further interior signs were noted, and the customer confirmed they were satisfied with the outcome of the treatment.
Technician Notes
Grant conducted the exterior inspection and treatment during the first visit, identifying likely rodent entry points and installing exterior bait stations. At the second visit, activity was reported as resolved with no ongoing interior concerns.
