Job Overview
Location: Oshawa, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-storey residential house with mixed siding and brick exterior
Problem: Early-morning noise and activity originating from the roof area
Service: Humane squirrel removal and full roof-level exclusion
Visits: Two visits
Summary
We were contacted regarding repeated early-morning wildlife activity coming from the roofline of a detached home. Our inspection confirmed squirrel entry through a soffit wall vent. A two-visit removal and exclusion plan was completed, including the installation of a one-way door and reinforcement of multiple roof and wall vents to prevent re-entry.
Background / Property Context
The property is a detached two-storey house with an attached garage and multiple roof and wall penetrations. Several vents were located along the soffit and roof slopes, creating common access points for climbing wildlife.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported persistent noise and movement in or on the roof, primarily during early morning hours, raising concern about wildlife accessing the attic space.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial inspection, our technician identified active squirrel use at a wall vent located on the soffit. Further roof-level inspection identified additional vents that were vulnerable to wildlife entry. No interior damage was reported at the time of service.
Cause Analysis
Squirrels commonly exploit elevated wall and roof vents when screening is damaged, loose, or absent. The soffit vent provided a direct entry point, while nearby roof vents presented additional risk due to their accessibility from the roof surface.
Treatment / Removal
A humane one-way door was installed over the affected soffit wall vent, allowing the squirrel to exit without re-entering. The system was left in place to ensure all activity had ceased before permanent sealing was completed.
Exclusion & Repairs
Following confirmation that no further activity was present, exclusion work was completed, including:
- Galvanized steel vent cover installation over six roof vents
- Installation of a second galvanized steel wall vent cover
- Removal of the one-way door after the exclusion period
All materials were securely fastened and designed for long-term wildlife resistance.
Outcome & Confirmation
At the follow-up visit, the homeowner reported no further wildlife activity. The one-way door was removed, all exclusion work was inspected, and no additional entry points were observed. The issue was fully resolved at the time of completion.
Technician Notes
Grant completed roof-level inspection and exclusion work using safe access methods. No complications or access limitations were reported during either visit.
